The secrets of breaking in?
Hi all,
I just bought another new cbr 600 rr (movistar!!) - my old one was crashed and repayed for.. I have to do another break in, and there are lots of different opinions on what the best way is. Some say as the owners manual says, some say ride it hard right away etc. etc. Just wanted to pick your brains and get your expert opinions! Thanks

For the first 500-600 miles I just didn't do any hard acceleration from standing still, I let the bike thoroughly warm up prior to hitting high RPM 10,000+ and tried not do any hard stops.
HTH
That's how ride 90% of the time anyway.

Complete heat cycles are very important, waiting till norm op temp to open her up, before first oil change no hard riding w.o.t., vary engine speeds but keep them moderate 6-7k rpm and below. Many different ways to "break in" for power and perfomance but for engine longevity be easy for the first 1,5k mi.
WEENERS.
I broke my bike it right off the bat 2 days/ 50 miles later with a ride to havasu doin 6th gear wide open in the sun the whole way there almost....
Ride it how your gonna ride it. give it a little break it, dont pull it off the showroom and crank out redline, give it a bit for the rings to get a few miles on them and ride it how your gonna..
I ran a 10.90 on my bike after a BRUTAL breakin.... wheelies, pinging redline, burnouts, the works... my bike ran fine..
oh did i mention 13k on the bike in 1 1/2 months? with only 1 oil change at 500miles?
somethin happens to it, you got warranty. lol

little late on replying but Hondas technical gurus swear they dyno your motor before it leaves the factory. The official response I got from them regarding motor break in was, "other manufacturers put warning stickers on their gauges hoping to save themselves warranty money. We dyno our motors before you even see it on the showroom and we expect you to be able to ride it when you buy it. No break in required." Dealer rep told me basically the same thing. Said the tires are the only thing that require break in because of chemical coating on new tires and that is to keep you from laying your bike down.
