Default Running Hot

My 04 RR has been running around 230-240F for awile and then yesterday it started blinking at 250. I pulled over and let it cool down to about 190 and from there went straight home(about 2 miles). The coolant and oil levels are good. Could this just be a tstat or should i be worried about something worse? Its been in the high eighties here since this has been happening.

I would start by running it and verifying that the fan is kicking on.

Well, mine is an '06 but not that different and I ride in traffic when it's 105 and never ever go over 222-224 at red lights. Something has to be very wrong I would think.
