Default Rough Idle...backfire...dead bike

Hey guys,

I need all y'all's help. About three weeks ago, my bike's performance has steadily declined. At first, it would idle rough. In the next week or so as I would decelerate it would backfire. The idling/backfire became worse to the point where it would not even idle. AsI would rev my bike, black smoke would come out the exhaust indicating a rich fuel mixture. Now, my battery is completely dead. Not sure what is going on. I have a theory but am not sure if it's right. I'm thinking that maybe my charging system or my regulator/rectifier was progressively failing, causing my spark plugs to either misfire or not spark fully which would explain the rough idle/backfire/rich fuel mixture issue. The regulator/rectifier would also eventually cause my battery to lose its charge. Has anyone had a similar issue to mine in the past. I should mention that I have a 2003 600rr. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm about to take it to a stealership I'm so fed up. I am pretty sure it's not a fuel injection system issue as I am not receiving any warning lights on my dash. I also ran some fuel system cleaner in my bike early on when it first started to idle rough, but that did not help.

Aye... Check the cat. I am thinking that maybe you got some bad fuel, like in consistency if you go do the same fuel place over and over again. If that happened, you could have led to excessive carbon build up in the injectors, causing poor performance. Putting the injector/fuel system cleaner in there would have pulled the carbon out of the motor and into the exhaust system, letting in collect in the cat. Too much build up in the cat will cause exhaust blockage, leading to more loss of power, and eventually inability to start due to a clogged exhaust.

That would also explain the black smoke, carbon residue coming out of the cat.
Might not be it, but I think its worth checking.

im not sure of it being the rectifier, i used to have a 93 F2 an the rectifier went bad twice and all it did was cook the battery leaving a sulfer smell which could cause the battery to go dead if you have a volt meter get the bike started set it to DC power and check the positive and negitive lead and see what its charging at if its anything higher than 14 or so it could be the rectifier. as far as the back firing and black smoke id check the plugs because when you rev the bike it kicks up the compresion and mixture making it more explosive and on the come down theres not as much. now im not sure if our bikes have one but it could also be an EGR valve leak or the coil thoes are my guesses
