rear tire (am i stupid)
After just buying a new rear skin for my 05rr I have found a nail in it. I was unable to find a tire shop to patch tire so I put a plug in it and am still riding. Am I stupid for doing so or is this a ok fix till i can save my change for a new tire. Any feedback about this sistuation would be greatly appreciated.
A hole usually depends on lots of factors. Where on the tire? How large? How serious, etc???
I'd be pretty careful. I've run plugs on my Vette street tires before very successfully, but you only got 2 tires on the ole bike to do all the work.
I'd watch it like a hawk till you got her changed out. Check tire pressures every single ride and along the way, etc.

The hole was just a very small pinhole not on the tire surface it was in the middle of one of the groves of the tread. I rode about 200 miles yesterday checking it often and no problems so far.
I rode with a plug in for a few months with no problems at all but it was always a thought in the back of my mind if something went wrong. I spoke to a friend who works at a tyre store & he reckons that really, you can get away with one bung in if its been done properly but no more than that. If you've got the cash, just get a new tyre.
If it's one of those gooey worm plugs like they use in cage tires I wouldn't trust it...if it's an umbrella plug then "ride on baby!" You can either take it to a shop that will patch it with an umbrella patch (a dealership most likely won't) or get a new tire.
some shops offer insurance on their tires. Go check to see if the place you got the tire from will offer a % for store credit for another tire. I know cyclegear has motorcycle tire insurance for the life of the tire. If you get a nail in it and you have more than half tread left, they'll give you a free replacement tire. Less then half tread left, they'll refund half of the credit for store credit if I remember correctly.
