Hey everybody. I already mentioned this in the newbie forum but I thought I'd meet fellow 600RR folks. Just bought a 2003 600RR with 14k miles. It has a few mods that I can tell:

Flush blinkers (front and back)
Scorpion exhaust (not sure about slip-on vs. full system)
Power Commander

It's nothing fancy but I'm a newbie to street so I figured I'd post up. No mods planned. Just trying to buy some basic gear and a rear stand and enjoy riding. Anyway, here's a pic of my new ride.

Welcome to the streets. Some quick advice I can give that was given to me when I first started ridding is. Wear your gear so you prepare for the fall and not the beach your skin will thank you later. Get yourself a Manual for repairs because you can save so much money when you don’t pay someone else to do the work for you. The manual has directions that are really easy to read and will not confuse you too much. Use this forum for all the good information that these seasoned rider’s posses. You will be surprised at how quick your mind will change from (I don’t want to mod the bike at all) to well maybe I will just get a few and then before you know it your full blown crack is being in the Garage turning wrenches and checking this site for the newest and coolest parts/mods for your bike. I really like the yellow and black combo on the bike it reminds me of bubble bee, you just need to powder coat the rest of the silver to complete the look.

* Do a Google search for a pdf version of the manual- it’s free
* Motorcyclesuperstore.com has a lot of good deals on gear
* Ronayers.com has a lot of good deals on OEM parts- for maintenance
* As for aftermarket stuff just search for the best deal or see what people are willing to sell in this forum

 

Yeah, to comment on the gear, my buds ride in tee shirts and shorts, I wear gear and they give me crap about it. I can shower and wash the sweat off, but road rash is a bit harder to get rid of. I have an '06 model (pretty much same as yours) love the yellow though.

Nice bike man. Be safe and wear your gear. Get yourself something to save your knees in a spill as well. You need knees to do anything.

 

Thanks for the compliments on the bike. I used to be a bit of a wild party guy (Texas Tech graduate) but now that I'm married, 27 yrs old with one son and more on the way (eventually), I'm more focused on enjoying to ride instead of blasting through traffic at 140 mph....

Anyway, I promised myself to always ride in gear (lid, gloves and jacket) and under no circumstances drive even after one beer. I respect the power of the bike but also don't trust myself given "liquid courage". More posts to come....

 

Welcome, and congrats on the new bike, I like that color matched lower fairing (it's usually grey) looks really clean!. Good call on riding with gear! Might want to add pants and boots to the list. Jeans will get shredded in a second at almost any speed, so even kevlar reinforced jeans will be a fairly cheap alternative for better protection. Boots of any kind are always better than sneakers, but motorcycle specific boots will provide more ankle support and have reinforced impact areas.
