just get out there and ride...you'll be fine...be confident...relax your body...try not to grab too hard...easy on the throttle...look ahead where you turn...not your front tire...and always use both brakes when you stop...and have fun!!!

Definitely talk to that 'old guy' with the chopper at work. If he has 30k miles on his bike, he's probably learned a few things along the way.

A chopper and a sport bike are very different in terms of how they ride, and you'll have to learn how to control your bike with practice. Where he could help is with traffic awareness - things like knowing how to evaluate a situation, and how to place yourself in traffic so you're visible, have a safety area around you, and have an escape path for when some knucklehead cager tries to kill you.

Congrats on the new bike and permit! i WAS is that situation about 3 months ago...haha. yes i did learn on my own and the 06 600rr was my first bike but i did drive alot of manual trans vehicles before i got the bike so i thought it was gonna be easy to ride...i guess i tried to learn too fast and ended up dropping it twice!!! haha but 3 months later im on the road when ever i get the chance. just take it slow...i still am... i still have yet to master that slow u-turn...i havent taken the MSF course yet...havent found time to actually sign up...but i will get there soon. anyways congratulations again, take it slow, and wear ur gear like everyone says....
