Default Noobie mistake

I was at a volleyball tournament today and I had my bike parked on the asphalt next to the courts. It was a pretty hot day out and I didn't realize my stand was makin' a huge *** crater in the ground. Luckily a guy from my buddy's team told me my bike was sinking into the pavement so I rushed over and moved my bike onto more sturdy ground in the shade. Phew! Man would I have felt like an *** if my bike had fallen. Not only would it have hurt my pride, but my wallet as well.

So for all you noobies out there, and as a friendly reminder you the veterans: Don't park your bike on asphalt in the summer. If you must, keep it in shaded areas where the sun won't heat it up. Learn from my near fatal (and stupid) mistake [sm=nono.gif]. Ride, and park, safe.

Yeah, that's a classic one. I carry a suede caoster under my pillion seat, it's about the only thing that will fit in there. It works, but I still check on my bike regularly no matter what. I used to carry a little block of wood, also at work I have a crushed soda can that I keep by the door. Surprisingly that crushed can has been there since early May and no one has thrown it out. I use it when I get there in the morning and toss it back in the same spot at night

Good save. I keep a 3" x 3" piece of semi flexible floor tile under the seat. I found it in a parking lot one day and it works great.

Yeah I was thinking about sticking a block of wood in my trunk for such situations. I like the coaster and floor tile idea too.

I carry one of those "tin cases" that the AOL cd's used to come in. As a general rule of thumb, if i park on asphalt/gravel etc when i dismount my bike if the stand has made any kind of dent at all by the time I get my gear off I use the tin.

I actually use a kickstand "Foot" i got from a benifit ride. If you want to use something that LOOKS like it was designed for what it's doing, i suggest buying one, or go to a benifit ride and get one for (nearly) free.

Also, buy Frame Savers just in case of a GUST of wind. I'm looking at the Vortex Sets.
