New Bike: Break in period questions
So the fellow at the dealership basically just told me for the first little while not to let the bike hover in the same gear at the same RPMs too much. He wasn't too specific, and at the time I was too stoked to just go out and ride my new bike to question him further. The bike has 140 km on it right now (or about 90 miles). Is there anything specific I should be doing. Its really hard to drive around the city and get it into the higher RPMS. After 9k this thing just rockets off. Its kind of scary lol. Also I should first change the oil at around 600 miles, correct? And should I keep the same oil that was originally put in by the dealer on the first oil change, before switching over to full synth?
Best thing is to grab your trusty owners manual and read the section about "break in", as well as the mantinance sections (should be plenty of info about when you should do your first oilchange)
If your bike is an 07 600rr, I could just paste the information in here... but since I don't know, then that advice works for all the bikes.

Thats all it says. Not too helpful, but I haven't been doing any of that so I guess I'm O.K.

extra attention to how you ride during the
first 300 miles (500 km).
During this period, avoid full-throttle
starts and rapid acceleration."Thats all it says. Not too helpful, but I haven't been doing any of that so I guess I'm O.K.
I'd change the oil now, then again at 500 miles, then again at 1500 miles, at least...there will be little metal chips in the oil that you don't want in the engine for extended periods, and get Repsol 10W-40 and use fresh oil every time...

Remember... it's a Honda! Kawi's and Suzuki's and Yamaha's have pretty strict break in procedures... This Honda doesn't. That shows you quality of engineering!
I was told 1st oil change at 120 miles, don't go past 5k first 500 miles. 2nd oil change 500 miles, don't go past 10k til after 1000 miles. 3rd oil change at 1000 miles then every 3000 miles.
I was told keep it under 7rpms until after your 600k check. then change the oil every 2500K after thst. it cant hurt to change the oil more than normal, just watch your rpm's the first 1000K miles. NO RED LINING~
