Knocking Noise
Hey everyone!
i just bought this 2006 600rrwith 3000 miles a couple days ago, the guy was real up forward with me letting me kno that the bike isnt it perfect condition. the guy he got the bike from droped the bike while riding and then left it in his garauge for a couple months. well the bike starts up fine (except i think that the battery is dead anyone know how to check to see if i need a new* battery or the old one needs to be chared?). the only thing is, the bike ismaking a loud knocking noise. my friend who works on bikes thinks it a "rod" or a rod bearing or somthing. someone else said it might be a valve. any ideas?

RE: Knocking Noise
For the battery: $18 will get you a trickle charger at Walmart, that will recharge your battery, or tellyou if the battery needs replacing (they have a diagnostic feature, well most of the good chargers do anyways)
the noise could be anything... might be as simple as a rusted clutch (it did sit in a garage unstarted for a couple of months) or something more serious.
if it is a real problem then you have 2 options:
Get the service manual and take the head apart and check it yourself (if mechanically inclined), or
Take it to a reputable shop to get checked out (it probably needs some maintenance anyways)
DO NOT ride it like that until you've figured out what the problem is. you'll end up doing even more damage to the engine, and if it siezes up while you're at speed it will cause you to have a very nasty accident.
