i have a knocking noise in my 97 f3. doesnt exactly go along with rpm and also goes away if i hold in the clutch. Need to replace clutch?

 

I have same thing. It seems the sound goes from the cam chain, isn't it?

 

yea seems to be the area where its coming from, just strange it doesnt happen with the clutch lever pulled in i think

 

I had to replace my cam chain tightener. Very easy to do. Plus they are known to fail.

 

do you chop the throttle when you pull in the clutch though?

 

No, the bike makes this noise at idle. if i just pull in clutch lever while it is idle the noise stops. comes back when i release

 

yea ive heard that about the tensioner may do that either way

 

Id do it esp if your bike has 20,000 plus miles on it.

 

It's a noisey clutch basket and it's pretty normal for a honda clutch.

 

ya dude, mine does exact same thing, clutch out (in netural) and the faint knocking from inside. I have a manual tensioner on it too, so i know its not that.

When I pull it in, noise is gone- its so faint though. But I sure hope its like redbaron says, nosiey clutch basket, cause it doesnt seem to effect anything.
