I have put HID's in about 8 vehicles now over the past 4-5 years and have had one problem due to a burnt out bulb and it was replaced for free through the warranty and now damage to any of the vehicles.
I would recommened not going 55W as it is a very high in-rush and could fry your harness (If you don't have a direct line to the battery), but if you stick with 35W you will be fine.
I got mine from www.ddmtuning .com as I like the lifetime warranty but there are a couple other places other members prefer as well.
Cheers

Remember when you add an HID kit you could possibly blind oncoming traffic. It is best to try to aim the spotting as far down as possible.
I am going to try to retrofit some bi-xenon projectors in to my hi & low beams in a couple of weeks, this is the route I suggest you take. Of course it costs a couple of extra beans but running only HIDs seems to tick off the general public. I wouldn't want to pass up a huge truck I just blinded then him run me off the pavement a mile down the road.
Here is an example of my most recent retro-fit:
These are from my Tacoma. It's not really hard, only intimidating.
The real advantage to this is the projector has a cutoff line you can actually aim properly, like OEM lights, so you are good to go.
I plan to do a write up / how to installation in a few weeks on my CBR. If you still want HID lamps only, stick with 35W / 4300K ballast & lamp. ~Large

The bad about projectors on bikes is turning at night, Its fine for cars that do not lean but on a bike that cut-off line is your enemy as when you lean into the turn you can't see deep into the corner which to me is much more dangerous then blinding an oncoming driver for a few seconds.
Look at the 33sec mark.

Thank you for the video Jeff. It had not occurred to me about turning with the cut off line. I think my understanding was I live in Houston and you practically don't need headlights since it's so bright here 24/7.
I am going with the retrofit mainly for looks and use Phillips 6000K lamps to try to remedy the cutoff line while in the middle of a turn. If I think it is unsafe I will not leave the headlights like that but I will use different projectors with different beam patterns as well to find the best light output without sacrificing safety. ~Large
