Default First Oil Change????

In the owner's manual it says that I should do have the oil and filter replaced at 600 miles or 1 Month, which ever comes first. I've had my new 600RR about 3 weeks now and have put 200 miles on it so far. At this pace it'll take me several months to hit the 600 mile mark because I only ride a short distance each day to work and back. I'm trying to go rising on the weekends to put more miles on it but so far like I said about 200 in 3 weeks. So my question is......should I wait until I hit 600 to do the 1st oil / filter change? Or would it be better to do it at some point earlier? Given my low mileage per week, what would you guys say would be a good point to change the oil for the first time? Thanks for your input!

Pretty funny...the owner's manual gives you a crystal clear answer, but yet there's still confusion...you even answered your own question...here...I highlighted it in red for you.

Sorry for the sarcasm...but I couldn't resist.

I understand your sarcasm, I'm the same way. The reason I asked is because I've searched around and there seems to be a lot of opinions on when people are doing their first oil change. Some say do it after a month. Some say 250 miles, 400 miles, and others say wait all the way to 600. So I'm looking for opinions from this forum based on all of your experience and knowledge.

By the way, the owner's manual says some things that aren't necessarily followed to the letter by experienced riders. For example, it says that during shifting the clutch should always be fully engaged during each upshift and downshift. There's no mention of clutchless shifting, but still many riders do it. That's why I'm looking for lots of opinions on the subject I asked about. It's always nice to hear what others have done if they are more experienced that you.

I bought my 06 in early Feb and didn't get 600 miles on it unil early April then I changed the oil. Its like with cars they say 3000 miles or 3 months. I always go with mileage, unless the vehicle has been sitting a long time. (Like winter storage). I 'd go with whatever you feel comfortable with. 200 miles in 3 weeks? I put 200 on today. Bike now has just over 1300 miles. Get out and go riding.

I replace my oil immediately after I bring any new machine home from the factory. This fully insures that there was nothing left in the motor after it was machined at the factory. Then I replace it again at 1000 miles. and then about every 2 to 3 thousand miles thereafter. I run the stock honda oil up to about 3 thousand miles and then switch to honda gold label oil.

Just do what the manual suggests and all will be well...it's not like the olden days when tolerances were worse...the machining is very precise now and big shavings don't come off anymore like they use to...just do what the manual says!

Then again, it's your money...go ahead and flush it down the toilet...

I change at 600, then every 3000 (or sooner if I get a track weekend in the mix).
