Everything a new owner should know.
Hi,
I just boght my CBR 600RR and was wondering. For those of us not lucky enogh to have a Shop manual:
What is the recomended interval to lube the drive chain?
Wnat is the recomended interval to change the oil? (3000 miles)?
What is the recomended interval to flush the coolant?
What is the recomended interval to change the brake fluid?
what are the torque settings for the drive chain bolts, ect.?
What is the normal operating temperarure for the bike?
Any imput will be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

RE: Everything a new owner should know.
What's up Oreo cookie man, lol.
Anyway, here is the answer to some of your questions:
- Lube Chain every 500 miles or sooner with chain wax.
- Change oil every 2000-3000 miles.
- Change oil filter every other change at most (change filter with every oil change recommended)
- Coolant should be flushed and replaced on a yearly basis.
- Normal operating temperature is 165-220 depending on traffic.
This is what my dealer (the one I trust and couldn't say more good things about) told me was a good practice to keep on a new bike. The owner (now a good friend of mine) said this is the practice he takes when he maintains his bikes. This is also the matinence schedule I keep on my bike as well.
The most important out of the entire bunch is the oil changes. Frequent oil changes will GREATLY prolong the life of the engine/clutch/tranny, etc. Always keeping your chain clean and lubed with greatly prolong the life of the chain and sprockets. I wasn't sure about the brake fluid (i'll probably do that every year or so too, couldn't hurt right?)
ALSO!!!!!!! For all you people needing a Honda Service Manual for your bikes, I found one online in .PDF format!!!!! The manual is for the 2003-2004 model year bikes, but there isn't too much difference when it comes to simple matinence and such. Here's the link: ENJOY!

RE: Everything a new owner should know.
Since you bought a Honda, if it is a new one it came with the Honda Riders Club card which includes access to the entire shop manual. When it comes to chain lube, the best in the world is Dupont Teflon all in one lube. If you don't have a stand, the easiest way to lube your chain is to just lean it up on the kickstand. This will allow the back tire to be rotated. Hope this helps and good luck with your bike.

RE: Everything a new owner should know.
Thanks a bunch, blue fox, and all that replied. Since my bike had 0 miles when i boght it, I'm taking it for the 400 mile service. After that I'm probably doing all of the service myself. I downloaded the manual and it's great help. Also your replies have cleared up some of my doubts.
So I will be buyinga service stand (probably 2 front and rear) swingarm sliders/stand jacks, chain grease, a aparkplug gap gauge, dot 4 fluid (the one I have for my car is dot 3).
BTW I already installed my rim tape (horay for 1st mod)!!
