Default Dead battery problems.

I just bought the bike a week and a half ago. It's an 04 RR, I brought it home 400 miles on a trailor and when I got it home the battery was dead. I charged it and it ran fine on the few short trips around the neighborhood but today on my way home from work it died on me and wouldn't start again. I was thinking maybe something got jarred loose. It's my first bike so I am really in the dark. I've worked on cars but never taken apart a motorcycle. I have a battery charger that claims to test the alternator and it was giving me a fault. I found a thread about testing the alternator and it involves taking my tank off. This leads to my question, how exactly do I get the tank off. It looks as though I need to take the side fairings off which I've started to do. But before I got in too deep I thought I would ask some folks that could point me in the right direction and make sure I don't do anything I don't have to. Thanks guys.

Default RE: Dead battery problems.

Remove the two bolts near the neck, and under the seat. the other two are under the ram air covers. bend the front of the cover and pry it upwards, then detach them from the tank cover. you'll see two screws, one on each side. remove them and your able to remove the cover. the tank is secured on either side by bolts. remove them and rotate the tank upwards and rearward.

viola.
