Default could someone help me adjust the suspensin, 2006 600rr

im trying to adjust the suspension on a 06. rr, but i have never had to do this before. im kinda lost. i was going to start with the suggestions that sportrider has for the bike (since im a really average 6'/170) then go from there. the first setting i started to mess with was the spring preload....and thats where i got stuck lol. i started by turning this counterclockwise until it stopped turning. and was going to turn it out 7 times like sportrider said. but then i realized it said to turn it 7 times from its stiffest. when i turned it counterclockwise isnt it at its softest, and not its stiffest? that is pretty much my question. im scared to turn it clockwise all the way because, like any bolt, wont it eventually just kinda fall out of the forks?

Refer to the writeup "The Importance of Setting Sag" on the Boston Moto website in my sig. There's a procedure in there for setting up your suspension baseline. You will need at least one other body there to help you hold the bike and/ or take measurements.

Forgot to mention that the preload adjustment is designed so it won't back out of the fork leg.

i cant get the preload on the back to turn, because i cant find a way to position the tool to where i have enough room to turn it. the tool im using though, is out of a yzf600r tool kit because i didnt get one with the 600rr. is the tool that a 600rr would have differnt, or am i just doing it wrong?

Spanner wrenches can be tricky. You may have to find a spot where you can turn it one click at a time. Without seeing it, I can't say for certain if the spanner from the YZF will work for the RR. There are different styles of spanner wrenches tho so you could very well be pissing in the wind at the moment.

It's not ideal but if you have a hammer and a flat punch you can place the punch in one of the notches of the preload and give it a good tap. Again, NOT the ideal thing to do in that you risk $hitting up the notches but it does work.

i called a local shop and asked "what does it cost to set up my suspension" he put me on hold and when he came back he said "you're probably looking at 2 hours of labor, so $186" maybe i should of just asked what it would of cost to set sag, but still 200 is ridiculous, i think

ROFL, wow, talk about stealer. You should report dealers like that. I got mine done for $25 bucks and took only 20 minutes, and that was with 3 adjustments , and tank removal for mine for aftermarket shock, all the while the tech guy gave me a very informative lesson about suspension.

For stock suspension it should take no longer than 10-15 minutes. I suggest trying to borrow a spanner for the RR from another local rider if you don't want to buy the tool.
