When you look at the fuel tank, you're actually looking at a lot more. The cover hides the fuel cell, which is from the fuel lid back and your air box, the front half. You have to remove the seat, both inner covers (plastic that covers the top of the air ducts) and a couple bolts from the side fairing. All of this is just to see the air box. You then have to un-mount your ECU, then all of the bolts to the air box cover. And then the filter is bolted in with 3 screws. Here's a pic to help out a little.
