Default Burning Oil

My CBR has burned about a 1/2 qt of oil since my last oil change, which was about 1600 miles ago. I plan to do an oil change in about another 1000 miles.[I've put a couple hundred miles on since yesterday morning] This will be its third oil change since I bought the bike new. I'll probably do an oil change next weekend since I'll be riding to work most of the days this week, that's an easy 200-300 miles or more dependin'.

Is burning this much oil between oil changes normal? I have to admit since the second oil change I have been riding more aggressive.

BTW I did add oil.

TIA

Do you do alot of stop and go riding? Alot of riding at night or during the day? What kind and weight of oil are you running? If you are using it alot as a commuter special the heat of riding in traffic can be culprate. I commute 3 times a week w/ mine and I'll consume less than 1/3 qt over 2,5K miles. I use Repsol 10W-50. It has no problem putting up w/ the abuse I give it.

Yea, I do stop and go riding.

I'm using 10W-40 and I do commute, more like 5 days a week.

Thanks

If you do a lot of aggressive riding, that will burn oil, but 1/2 qt in the mileage you wrote doesn't sound all that bad...just a touch more than average for a sport bike.

Sure it's not evaporating? Some oils have a very high Volitility coefficant and when brought up to temp can loose a lot of substance because it's evaporating. Honest.

Check the Evaporative Heat Stability Test part to learn more
