Somebody sure does have some purdy toes there....
Anyway, the damage doesn't look that bad at ALL. But, it is an almost brand new bike, and yes, any damage does seem like it's the end of the world. The rattle can/paper-towel dab trick sounds like it'll get it back tonew again.
Obviously, you temporarily solved the problem by putting a towel at the top of that spool stand. For a permanent fix, I'd try fabricating the bracket, if possible. Bending it would bring it further away from the swing arm, but you don't want to compromise its ability to securely hold the bike up.
Good luck. And turn off the caps lock, damn it.

i think the atheletic tape idea is the best thus far..
and i am definately ordering the pit bull stands after seeing this..
