Default Bike is acting up: 2003 RR content

MY 2003 CBR600RR is giving me a hard time. Yesterday leaving work I rolled on the throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear and all of the sudden it was like I hit fuel cut. Now that I think about it, I may have!

The bike lost all power, the FI light came on and the oil light as well. RMPs dropped to zero. This happened twice for a split second. Then it came back on and I rode home fine. It happened twice again later at night.

Here's another thing that scares me a little. Riding home last night I was pulling into my neighborhood and I let off the throttle and man did my light dim, and dim hard...

Anyone know whats going on??? I recently got a new battery like last month! any ideas?

Take your killswitch apart and see if its making a good connection.

theres 2 screws, and then it comes off the clip-on, takes 5mins tops to take it off, check it out, and put it back on.... if you've got a voltmeter, hook it up to the male connector, and see if you've got continuity in the on position, and no continuity in the off position.

Thanks Volcom, I'll check it out. Anything else in particular I should look at?

I wouldn't think it would be anything else.... if it were a sensor, it wouldn't be cutting in and out, it would just shut off and stay off. With the killswitch, if its in the on position, but loses continuity the bike will shut off, and when the bike hits a bump in the road or something, and the killswitch regains continuity, the bike will restart itself (if your moving, if your stoped it won't restart itself, its as if you jump start your bike). In the process of starting the 600rr, you turn the key on and the lights turn on, when you press the starter button, the lights dim, and when the engine comes to life, the lights brighten back up, right? We'll, I think thats why your lights dimmed, because your bike "shut down" for a split second and then bump started itself.

^ yes and no. I understand why the lights dim.

It's just my case senario was a little different. I was moving and when I let off the throttle a little the headlights really dimmed out. Like alot! haha. (Honestly, more than I think they should've). I will add that the bike didn't shut off at that point I revved it back up and they came on strong. Let go and back down to the weakness. Obviously its a little hard to explain exactly but i'm sure you understand.

I guess it's normal but the difference was just sooo big thats all...It looked like it was going to die but didn't.

Looks like I will spend some time checking out the killswitch. Hopefully thats the culprit!

Thanks again for the help...let me know if my dimming senario sounds strange!
