What happens when Cam Chain Tensioner goes bad?
The bike had a tuneup, oil, filter, plugs and carb sync about 2200 miles ago. It's been perfect until recently it started giving me the occasional slight stutter (or miss) as the engine winds down from revs in the 5000-7000rpm range. My mileage is about 12000 miles.
When it's cold there is a distinct clicking coming from the right side. Once warmed up, about 10 minutes of riding, I don't hear it any more. Oil level checked and its good.
Does this sound like the infamous CCT ?

Valves were checked at last maintenance, if that means anything.
Change the oil and filter?
I was hoping someone had a CCT go bad and could tell me the effects.

Almost anyone you ask, especially with the Carbed bikes has had some form of ticking, or tacking. It's pretty common when the engines in our Hondas are ran so tight, it's going to happen. Like you, it bothers me, it usually is a precursor to a bigger problem in other fields of combustion engines, such as a car making that sound. But for a bike, especially a Sport Superbike with a very tight engine, sometimes things do tend to clickity clack.
vavles sometimes just chatter...my f4i has always had valve chatter and all was in spec.
if it only happens during cold then i wouldn't worry about it. if it happens all the time, then i would think it may be problematic.

Thanks ! I will listen for that can of BB's. So far nothing like that. Though getting my carbs balanced again by a good mechanic made a world of difference. I no longer get that stutter when the revs are winding down and the bike sounds completely different.

replaced my CCT at 66,000 miles so you should still hav esome miles to go unless you really are unlucky..
