wet bike and died
hello one and all , first time on the thread. i hope i get this right... well anyway , my question. i have a 99 and was riding home about a month ago. it was kinda of raining but nothing crazy. it was not the first time doing so but after i got off the freeway the rpm's dropped down at a stop light and just plain stopped running. it wanted to start up but not so well. after i did get it running seemed to be only on 2 cyclinders.. after a few days of drying out runs great again. my thoughts were that the connector plugs on the end of the coil pack on each cylinder got wet.. ?? what the hey.. i know it rains in japan so why would they not seal off these connectors from the elements.. it is the only thing i can think of that happened. anyone else have this issue and a good fix for me...dont really want to RTV if i dont have to.

I've ridden a lot of miles in the rain, and sometimes it's the plug wires shorting to the block, it may be the points getting wet (even thought you don't have points) water in the gas, I've had all these happen on various rides. (sometimes it just runs like a champ regardless)

It could've been that, although I've rode in downpours before and never had any problem. I've always thought that area to stay fairly dry even when the rain is coming down pretty good. I've went through all the wiring and found lots of wires that had the insulation rubbed through and lots that didn't have any plastic conduit or tape around them. It's pretty tidious but worth it to check out. I would check all the way back to the ignition module. Look for any exposed wires, sometimes all it takes is a little slice in the insulation
