Uprated Front Forks? Any Other Options?
Hi All,
Got some cash to spend, however finding it difficult to find a nice set of front forks instead of the stock ones. Are there any better looking/performing front forks around for a 1999 F4? Like these (which I know are inverted)... which look gorgeous... did do a search on here and a couple of things have been said about switching F4i's etc, however, I'm looking at just 3rd party replacements... even if they're none inverted, just replacement that look sweeter... if not then I may get mine resprayed as they're pitted and looking old compared to the rest of the bike...

this guy ( @CJardine) did it, from his mod log you can see that he installed the CBR1000rr (inverted) forks on his F4

That's all the info I have found on it. And cjardine has done a ton of cool things to his bike I'm ready to see it when he's finished with it

Another option is what I went with for my rebuild, which is sending the OEM forks away to have them reworked by a suspension specialist. I'm not sure what's available in the UK...I sent mine to Race Tech, and had gold valve cartridge emulators installed along with new springs and a complete service. The total bill came to around $700 US, which obviously isn't cheap, but it is cheaper than swapping them out for a set of Ohlins forks, and makes the stock forks perform much closer to a set of newer cartridge forks. In my case, I'm also installing a SuperBrace to make the front end even more solid. I'm still getting my F4 back together, but the gold valve cartridge emulators have made a considerable difference on a previous bike.
You did mention that your forks are pitted, and it's probably important to clarify where they are pitted. It's normal to have some discoloration and ugliness on the lowers, and the forks can be disassembled and the lowers powder coated (low temp) or painted. However, if the fork tubes themselves are pitted, my advice would be to go in a different direction...either find a set of OEM forks on eBay and use those as your platform, or go with a conversion like CJardine. Pitting on the fork tubes will do nasty things to your fork seals, assuming it is low enough on the tubes...

It's not bad takeing them apart and get can get the fork seal driver for like 50 or you can make your own ether way look on YouTube and there is a kid that has a how to ill post the like if I can find it you can do a full rebuild your self for like 400 including fork oil new seals dust covers springs and a valve kit. I use bike bandit for most of my parts but I found this site for the other parts

Hi Matey, no, been waiting on my new fariing kit etc, so not had time. Think this week, may take a look at the forks when I get the fairing off etc to clean it all and replace. Then I'll decide... might just rub them down and spray/powder coat gold or something, not sure yet though. What F4 you got, piccies?
