Default Suspension Question

My forks were shot when I first bought the bike and it had little over 14k miles on it. Now it has 23k something miles on it and whenever I brake my suspension almost bottoms out. Kinda scary cause I don't want to go flying into someones rear window if I need to brake suddenly one day.

What all do I need to fix this problem? New springs, fork seals??? And what do you guys recommend? I will eventually after I get a truck be taking it (My bike) to the track as often as possible so I want something that will last and is designed for high performance. I need a new rear shock as well. I found some used ones between 50 and 180 bucks. Salvage parts from other people crashing their bikes. What would you guys recommend for the rear shock as well? Money isn't really an object for me right now. But I don't want to pay ridiculous amounts of money for top of the line high performance parts that I won't use the full potential of. I just need something above OEM but still performs really well.

Look forward to some feedback. Take it easy!

Dan

What year is your bike? Depending, you can do a whole front end suspension swap going for something more modern. That way your whole front end will be from that year, rim, tire, brakes, etc. just make sure that the measurements for the headbearings and clearances will fit.If money is no object I would replaceit with Ohlins forks and shock. If you want to just rework the stock ones, you can send them to RaceTech. They'll spring and valve it for your body weight and riding style.

My bike is a '00. I want to look into your whole front end swap suggestion kamikazi. And I took a look at Ohlins forks and shocks. They are nice!
Do you have a link I can take a look at for the front end swap by any chance? If you don't have one I need more details regardless. For now though I'll search the web. Look forward to hearing back from ya!

I don't have a link, but you can start by finding the year and model of the front end that you want. Then comparing the part numbers for the headbearings. My guess would be is that if the bearings fit, it should mount up. Then you would need to find out the width of the forks, height of the triple tree etc. Might help to have someone with the front end that you want on their bike so you can do the side by side comparison, and get the measurments and part numbers w/o buying one first. If they're a really good friend maybe they'll let you try the swap to test for fitment.

This test was with a gixxer, but should shed some light on reworking your current suspension

Thanks for the info Kamikaze. Ohlins didn't really have to much to offer for this old bike after searching awhile. Some springs and valves is about it. And swapping the front end would take some time. Race Tech seems the most logical way to go. I'm gonna give them a call about the 25mm G2-R cartridges kits tomorrow. They don't have the prices labeled on their web-site. Which tells me that it could cost the same as the same kits put on that GSX-R 600 in that link you posted. Thanks again for your help! I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Well I knew mine were shot when I tried to set the SAG on my suspension with some buddies. Couldn't tighten front forks or the rear spring anymore. And we were getting the same measurements every single time before getting to the point we couldn't tighten any of the springs anymore.

I'm not to sure how many miles you can put on suspension before they're no good but I do know for a fact mine were the original suspension that came on the bike from mile zero. And I now have almost 25k miles on my bike. So you can stick a fork in my springs because they are done. (Sorry for the bad pun) I'm sure its just normal wear and tear. Maybe someone else can answer you better but I hope my little dialog helps you out.
