Default Suck. Stripped a bolt. Ahhh!

So I was replacing the stator cover on my bike and the very top right side bolt was going in super hard. Went in half way very easy and then just tightened up. I asked my friend if he thought I should keep going and so he tried it and it broke. So I decided to drill the bolt and use an extractor...when I tried to reverse the bolt out with the extractor, it broke the extractor tip off inside the bolt!!

I'm going crazy now. I'm not sure what to do. If I should really try and get it out or just JB weld that bolt hole and gasket the xrap out of it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

No please dont do that!

I would get back to fishing out the extractor and than the bolt. Maybe use so pb blaster too or a liquid wrench type thing. next time if the bolt stops dont force it just back it out and inspect the threads, clean em off stick a q-tip in there and clean that out and than try again to screw it in.

I can't drill the extractor bit out! It's tougher than the drill bit! I don't know what else to try but the JB weld is probably the easiest quick solution until I can get it to an actual shop. Not gonna leave it like that forever!

you can try to manually back it out with a small screw driver

Did the bolt break recessed into the case? Or is it flush?

If it's recessed, you're probably screwed, unless somebody else is really
clever. It's about impossible to drill and/or extract, an extractor that's
snapped off in the end of a bolt. Been there, slammed into the wall.

If it's flush, you might get a punch on it and turn it loose.
Just remember, it is LEFTY- tighty/RIGHTY-loosey...it's a screw extractor.

If you do get the extractor out...re-drill it bigger, you were using too-small
an extractor, that's why it broke. The drill bit should darn near, cut the threads
out of the bolt.

If it is recessed and you can't get it out, is there clearance and depth enough to
just over-size tap the hole and use a slightly bigger (and shorter) bolt?

Just a few thoughts, Ern

Well I figured out my mistake. The bolts I was using from the aftermarket stator cover were much longer than the bolts needed for the oem cover. Doh. I was trying to use bolts that were much longer than I needed and forced it all the way to the back and that's why it snapped.

Anyway, the tip of the extractor broke off right flush with the bolt, but the bolt is a wee bit recessed in the case. I may be able to get a flat head and give a good smack on it to pop it out but I may just leave it for now.

one bolt on top of the cover prolly wont leak, but not like you want to leave it that way for long. they can be stubborn as all get out, If you can get it to turn with a screwdriver you may be able to back it out, or just take it to a shop and have them deal with it.
