Default Strange oil residue

Ok everyone, I'm having an issue that I cant seem to find where it's coming from, I have what appears to be oil on the left side of the fuel tank, it has the consistency, smell and taste of oil but when I remove the tank its dry underneath. Where could it be coming from? I thought maybe the breather tube that connects to the left rear of the air box but its dry there, the wiring harness right behind the frame in the same spot has oil on it also. Any ideas on this?

Are you sure it's not gas?

I'm positive, as stated above it has the consistency, smell and taste of oil, I've replaced all fuel components and or orings as I did have a small fuel seepage from the petcock.

Dude I think someone might have dropped it, or you used the wrong oil. 15w40 rotella heavy duty diesel. Saves your clutch.
def looks like oil from airbox.
Hope its sorted

It has been dropped in the past, I've rebuilt this bike from when I first purchased it, I use 15/40 rotella diesel oil in the bike also. I removed the tank this past weekend and there was a small amount of oil where the wiring harness clips to the air box, I'm hoping the residual oil was what was causing it.

This is when i first bought the bike not bad for $500

Its been completed now, all maintenance up to date, all new cooling system. Stator and rectifier. Valves adjusted, carbs synced.
