Default Can you see oil in the oil tank

I just purchased a 2001 cbr and i was just checking the fluids. are you supposed to see oil when you look into the hole where you add the oil? Is it bad if i dont see any? Im asking because i dont know if the oil sits down in there or if thats the entire tank.

Look at the glass on the side with the bike level. It should be between the two lines with the bike not running. The top line is the full mark.

there is like a drop in the bulb. Does this mean theres no oil at all or that its just low? Wouldnt the oil pressure warning indicator come on if it was too low?

The oil pressure light will come on when it runs out of oil to pump. It does not have a oil low warning light. Add oil to bring it to the full mark, but make sure the bike is straight up. Any lean will cause an incorrect reading.

+1 to what was already said. The bike should be level when looking through the oil window.

Also, since you just purchased the bike, do an oil & filter change ASAP. Unless you knew the owner and can really vouch for what they said or did, do some immediate maintenance so you can start fresh with some usual maintenance.

Check brake pads; clean/lube chain; maybe consider bleeding the brakes for fresh fluid; check tire pressure; check all bolts and fasteners to make sure they are tight and none are missing; check coolant level, etc.

Pretty much, anything you would normally do after a month or two of riding, check and address.

Good luck and congrats on your new purchase.
