No spark ignition issues
I finally got my project fully back together and running good, other that I had to order an aftermarket ignition due to losing my oem set of keys. At first, I was getting zero spark due to the new ignition not supplying enough voltage to the "pink" wire that the ecu needs to send spark to the ignition coils. After tracing wires and finding the issue, I was able to find a form where someone was experiencing the same problem with an aftermarket ignition. I was able to get spark after splicing in a 0.5w 3.9v zener diode between the power wire and the "pink" wire, sending enough volts to the ecu to send spark to coils. Now I am experiencing an issue with the diode burning out every 10-15 min or so of riding, it has left me stranded twice. The bike is also not charging whilst riding, or running, and I am wondering if jumping the wires would cause it to constantly draw current, in turn burning out the diodes super fast, and causing the bike not to charge, or if there is some underlying issue I am missing. I was thinking about getting 1.0w 3.9v diodes next to see if they would last longer, but my main concern is the bike not charging. Any insight to these problems if anyone has experience something similar would help. I can order an oem ignition, but am really trying to make this fix work, because of the price of a new one. Thanks.
Tested everything suggested and all my voltages were correct according to the service manual and online resources. Went and got my battery tested and it went bad over winter sitting in my garage. Got a new battery and fixed the issue with it not charging. Now I am trying to figure out why I keep burning diodes, I am stumped right now trying to figure it out. All I can think is that the ones I ordered simply are to weak, and are just getting blown after 10+ mins of consistent voltage. Again, any insight is appreciated, I just want to ride again after completely rebuilding the bike over winter and am tired of tracing wires and voltages. Finding oem ignitions online is impossible as well as that was my first thought to fixing this issue, if anyone has one they are willing to sell or anything, reach out. Thanks.
