No visible wires! So much cleaner looking. I'm going to ask if the shop can do a quick couple of coats of black on the upper tree while they have it apart to replace the stem bearings and add the for dust caps.

Sorry, I misread your previous post. You've certainly done a lot of work on that battery tray. This is a first on this forum for a DMV requiring something extra. Nevertheless, hope you can get this situation taken care of w/o further problem.

Looks like the PO painted over the Honda emblem on the triple already. ;-)

If you have the time, have your local powder-coating shop blast it & re-coat it...it'll be like new.

Good idea. They will already have to wait for the fork protectors to arrive so they can send have that coated while they wait.

Good news! I am all done with my work on the bike. I am conceeding defeat on the brake light switch since I don't have any tools or materials to diagnose it. Ill drop it off at the shop to install the stem bearings and fix the brake light problem. That will take care of everything they faulted me for on the inspection and I should pass the re-inspection without a problem. Then I can hopefully get it plated and registered fairly quickly and I can actually go drive it farther that 5 miles at a time. Soo excited right now.

Here is its ugly as sin DOT legal look.

I know you are happy to have all that done. You've really been methodical & diligent. Good work!

Hope all goes well now. I know you want to get out there & really ride!

While mod/repair threads can be fun, ride-pics are even better!

SUCCESS!! My fender passed inspection. I'm hoping to grab a license plate in the morning and if I do, I can go for a nice ride after work! I'm too excited to bother taking the fender off and put the windscreen back on.

Excellent!

You're gonna want that windscreen tho. ;-)

Of course, now ride pics are mandatory!

Now go ride! :-)

Interesting and unfortunate thing happened this morning. I did my usual routine; unlock the bike, start it up with choke and once it is stable and running I put my helmet and gloves on. I live on a street full of row houses so I try to ease off the choke when the idle starts to raise as to not make my neighbors angry at me from the noise. Sometimes I ease off the choke too much and the bike dies. Usually it is no problem to correct the choke a bit and start it right back up. Once it is stable for about a minute with zero choke and handles small blips of the throttle, I take off.

Well this morning it wouldn't start back up after it died from letting off the choke a little too much. When I went to restart it, all I would get were a couple of burbles from the exhaust. It acts like I don't have enough choke to start it but with the choke on full it still wouldn't start. This is really odd to me since the bike was idling for at least a full minute or two while I got my helmet and gloves on.

Then of course my battery ran out of juice so I never did get it started. Roll starting it didn't work either. I only got about 5 or 6 attempts to start it after it died. Should I get a new battery? And, what do you make of my issue starting it this morning? I don't have a charger btw.

Most auto parts stores will check/charge a battery free and they usually give you a printout from the machine that shows where you are having issues, if any. You can also jump start it with a car and the general consensus seems to be do it without the car running. I've done it a few times on different bikes with no issues at all. Both are 12 volt systems. I could be wrong on the car running thing. It may not hurt anything, but even without the car running, you should get plenty of juice for a quick start up. Not sure about the running condition of your bike at the moment. Any vehicle needs just 3 basic things to run...air, fuel, spark. Everything else is a tuning issue. Try to crank it and then let us know what it's doing.

Edit: Oh and +1 on the windshield. I'm sure you've gotten it back on by now, but if not, it makes the ride much more comfortable. Just starting out on a bike and having the jitters about it can be made much worse if there's even a slight breeze with nothing to hide behind. Feels like a tornado is about to shove you off the road until you tuck behind the windshield and get out of it.

I got a new battery anyways. The one that was in there is an everstart, aka walmart brand. I got a yuasa from the bike shop today. It still wont start though. I guess I'm going to pull the farings off and check the plugs and let the cylinders air out in case they are flooded. Ill also go ahead and replace the spark plugs since I already have new ones waiting to go in.

Not what I wanted to happen during one of the last few weeks of decent weather....

Yea I can understand that. At least it will give you a chance to check your plugs to see how everything is burning in there. That will give you an idea of anything you need to do to the carbs.
