Default Just got my F4. Lets sort it out.

9/12/2012 EDIT: The shop completed the maryland state required inspection and boy am I in for it lol. Here is what he told me over the phone.
Steering Stem Bearing are worn and need replacing
Front Brakes have low and slightly colored fluid - needs flushing
Front Brakes do not light up brake lights
Front Turn signals are not DOT approved (flush mounts)
Rear fender has been removed
Not Tag light (b/c no fender)
No side reflectors front or rear (rear b/c no fender, fronts removed)
Wind Screen not DOT approved (he said I can pass simply by just removing it)
Passenger Hand hold not present
Head Light not DOT approved (HID kit)

So yeah that seems to be a lot. Most of them can be solved by getting original turn signals and complete OEM undertail unit complete with lights. Then switch to a normal H4 headlight and flush the brake fluid. Then I would need the front reflectors and take off the wind screen. These all seem like something I could do assuming I have the parts in my hand. The steering stem bearing however sounds fairly involved. I will check the oem repair manual to find out.

I has a sad now Now it will be much longer until I get plates. I was optimistically hoping to be ready this weekend.
END EDIT

Hey guys, I just got my 99 F4 this past tuesday. It has just under 17k miles on it. I already have new tires on the way as the current ones are old and show signs of cracking from sitting for a while with almost no air in them.
One issue I have have run into is that I don't have working bright head lights. The low beams do work. I believe I may have an HID kit but I have provided pictures and it doesn't look stock. I do like the look of the light but it appears to be broken and I need help identifying which bulb I need to source for replacement.

Also, the last picture shows the lower rear shock mount. Is this bracket stock? And which setting is stock. I believe the top location would be stock right?

Thanks for the help yall!

So here are pictures of the head light. Is this stock form factor (H4) or not?

The brown and black wires from the first picture go to the broken piece I think.

Also, which rear shock setting is stock. Currently it is in the middle of the three positions. I'm assuming this isn't a stock piece?

That's not a stock link or bulb. Has your bike been lowered?

Yes it has been lowered through the use of this bracket I believe. Idk by how much compared to stock though. I'm a car guy and know the reason and affects of lowering a car but how does it compare when lowering a bike as far as handling and riding dynamics are concerned?

Does anyone know which size bulb that is just from looking at it? I'll do some digging and try to find the ballast and see if I can get some more clues. I have a very limited tool set atm.
EDIT:I'm guessing it is an H4 Hi/Low dual beam bulb. It seems that you can only purchase these bulbs in pair which ends up being around $38

It's not an H4 bulb. The number should be in the base of the bulb.

Thanks for the tip to look on the base of the bulb. Turns out that it is in fact a dual beam H4. The high beam part is just broken.

Cool videos. I would have never thought about using WD40 as a degreaser. My bike could definitely use a good cleaning. I'll probably tackle that soon.

Its a lengthy process but it works and works well, Now I give the bike a good scrubbing once a month and hit it up about once a week with plexis or honda polish/cleaner. A lotta work over a weekend but it brings the bike back and makes your life easier in the long run.

Good day today! My Michilen Pilot Road 2 tires came in the mail along with 4 spark plugs and motul chain cleaning stuff. I cleaned and lubed up the chain and headed over to the shop to drop it off. It was a 4.8 mile ride and I only got up to about 45mph. The farthest and fastest that I've gone so far. I was nervous about riding on high traffic roads but I was surprisingly calm. I was very aware of intersections and cars merging and changing lines. I think I only looked at the speedo twice the whole ride but I was going with the flow of traffic so I wasn't worried about speeding. Im starting to become a pro and starting from a dead stop too. All in all a good ride for how short it was.

Since I don't have a plate yet, I am not going far at all on my rides just to be careful. The shop is also doing the state inspection and I also got progressive insurance before I headed out. If everything goes well at the shop, I'll hopefully have a plate and go for a nice ride this weekend.

Also, I saw the prices for labor at the shop and oh boy. Looks like I will be doing most of of the work myself lol. They want $138 per carb for cleaning! Time to start learning the factory service manual.
