I finally got around to installing my DDM Tuning HID kit.. 5000K 35W hi/low setup..

There are no instructions... but you can download them from their site. Its pretty intuitive however.. The harness is for a car so there is a whole other side but no ballast or hi low controller box for that side.. The power wire that should go to the battery is not even close to being long enough.. I cut it and splice in a longer piece of wire but I used the supplied fuse holder at the battery terminal.

The ground wire could have possibly been used as is if you grounded at the stay, but I opted to extend it.. I was going to go to the ground at the rear of the tank, but since you are only a foot from the battery, I ran the wire to the negative terminal.

I followed some of the factory wires and zip ties.. you can't see any of it. The ballast and most of the wiring is zip tied to the fairing stay and hidden under the windscreen in front of the gauges. All wiring is under the instrument panel covers.

The male H4 plug doesnt seat into the factory harness.. I put teh zip tie around the two of them joined together through the wiring.. it it now nice and tight.

The light is great.. pretty decent cut off line.. the DDM kit has a metal shroud that goes in front of the HID bulb.. This might reduce glare.. I dunno.. but its not that bad and pretty targeted. The 5000K doesnt have more than a tiny hint of blue.. mostly pure bright white.. I wonder if people will even know its an HID setup or just a bright halogen based on the color.

I might swap in that HID delay module that some people have used sometime in the future, as the ballast will draw some decent current at startup but while running it is only 35w as opposed to the stock 55W low beam.

I havent been able to ride since it has been raining nearly every day, but I think that the setup will be great both for visibility and night riding..

Jesus, that's bright . Not good with the amount of d1cking about though, I thought these were more a "buy it, plug it in and use" type of conversion?

 

its not really dicking around.. you have to extend the power wire for sure.. the harness must be meant for a car with a battery that is underhood next to the battery...

same with the ground... all in all it wasnt terrible... now Im debating about the HID delay relay kit.. hmmmm

 

I've known Turbulenz for awhile now & I believe I can safely say that he would not improperly install anything.

 

Wondering with the sheer brightness, is that on normal "low" beam that picture? Any reaction from drivers as that does seem mega bright that... nice like :-)
