You got lucky on the cop.

The green connector connects under the tank on the front of the two connectors and the orange or brownish one goes on the back. They might not be connected or, they might be switched around.

 

Try sanding the connections if it gives you problems. I had to do that to get the light to work when I first bought my bike.
