You can disagree all you want as long as you know where the line is. ;-)

I think anyone who's been around in the F4 section long enough, knows that I have experience w/ how the F4 & its systems operate.;-) I have a good background in motorcycles in general as well.

What I've bolded for you is *fact* for the F4 fuel pump as a whole. Further explanation for you below for your understanding.

Mechanically reliable, electrical compromised, that's my opinion.
That's your *opinion*...but it doesn't make it correct.

What I said about the F4 fuel pump is a matter of fact. The F4 pump hasn't been superseded by any redesign by the factory. When new models exhibit limitations from any particular part, the factory redesigns the part & it supersedes any old design. This IS the case w/ the R/R. The original F4 flat R/R was a poor design & Honda recognized that, redesigned it to a modern finned type to help dissipate heat better. That new style R/R supersedes the old R/R & is the only R/R avail from genuine Honda parts for the F4. Point being, no redesign was done of the F4 pump b/c its proved itself reliable since day one. There's no reason to redesign it. Its a solid unit. If you have an oem pump that goes out on you, its from neglect in maintenance (&/or bike sitting for long periods of time), from an external cause, or completely worn out (as all parts do eventually). However, its not from faulty design in the part.

I've been around F4's for a l-o-n-g time as well. So, don't try to sell me on something that's trying to re-invent the wheel, when the wheel is solid & turns just fine. ;-)

You've made your point, I've made mine. Let's leave it at that & enjoy more hearty discussion other bike topics. :-)

Can't agree with any of it, but what do we going to do?! Different opinions!

As you say, let's save our keyboard key contacts for other topics!

My fuel pump went at 5k miles, I bought a used replacement one, and it went in a year. I bought the bike with 5k miles and I'm not sure how the old owner of the used pump was. But my buddy has replaced his F4 pump a couple times. He used to be the parts guy and is absolutely meticulous with his bikes. Not many have as nice a stable of bikes as him, a mint Hawk GT650, early 90's interceptor, F4 and insanely tricked out 50. I've been running without a fuel pump for quite a while now and will never put one back in again. I've seen no difference at any speed and I can run the tank to reserve with no problems. I don't know why it has a fuel pump honestly.

I've always thought that it might struggle for fuel at higher speeds, as it was meant to balance the pressure in the carbs due to the RAM air...well, myth busted! ;-)
Good to know this report.

JBurrke, are you sure you still want to throw a pump in there??

i just got a 99 f4 this year and the guy i got it from gave me this pump in a bucket with spare parts and said he just took it out because it had failed. does this mean it probably isnt the pump itself but those contacts? id like to be able to get all i can out of every tank of fuel and not have to fill up twice as often

You won't need to fill twice as often without the fuel pump. Like I stated a long time ago I notice no difference in performance at any tank level and have never starved for fuel at any speed or RPM. Just make sure a fuel filter was put back in line. My bike has been going for a long time without a fuel pump. Now time to replace that pesky R/R it just went down.
