Lightbulb F4 choke procedures question

Ive noticed this since ive had my F4 and gotten used to it, yet after reading countless posts, now im not sure if i should be used to how my F4 idles.

Key on, choke on full, bike in nuetral: starts right up. Warms up after a few mins and while warming up, starts to climb to about 2300 rpms. This is when I usually slide the choke 1/4 of the way up and pull the rpm idle to about 1300-1500.
I can ride the bike for an hour and the choke will stay in the same position or slightly higher (2/3) of the way up and thats bout it.

My questions for yall are:

1) Does the F4 have an auto choke feature? (Ive read it does and read it doesnt).
2) At any point in time am i supposed to be able to let off the choke completely?

thanks for any input

The f4 is carbureted & not fuel injected, which means it has a choke. You should only use the choke during the warm up process. Once you are riding the bike the choke should be completely off. Ideally you should turn the choke off as soon as you can, before riding. The enrichener/choke is like a mini carb that dumps extra fuel & air into the intake to aid in the starting of the unit. If left on for long periods of time it can foul plugs from the extra fuel.

^^^^What he said. I usually let my bike warm up for about 5 or 6 minutes max and my rpms climb to about 3000 or 3300 on full choke and idles normally around 1500 or so (I dont know if mine is running too rich but it seems fine to me). I think you should definitely lay off of riding with the choke on, I used to do that on an old yamaha i had and i jacked my plugs all up and replacing plugs on the f4 is a PITA.

Very easy thing to check, is your idle adjusted too low? Once it warms use the idle adjustment screw to set your idle to ~1300RPM

Yep, adjust your idle 1300-1500 rpm, depending on climate.

That's it. A little adjustment goes a long way.

BTW, you need to bend that brake lever back out. ;-)

for those who might be reading this thread.. the picture above has a tiny screw just below where the seat clips in near the gas tank. thats the idle speed screw, thnx gotcbr. i turned it to the right a WHOLE BUNCH till i could let off the choke completely (after warming up) and then brought it down to about 1400-1500 rpms.. its where it feels purring to me lol
