Choke Question
I bought a '91 Hurricane back in Jan. and the newb in me cannot figure out what is going on with my choke. After the bike warms up I try and turn the choke down as far as possible. For some reason I cannot thumb the choke all the way up or else when the bike idles the engine slowly stops turning, then cuts out. I also get poor throttle response from a stop if the choke is all the way up. The bike currently has 27,000 miles on it, although it is in amazing mechanical shape, I didnt get a good maintenance history from the dealer.
Thanks!

Hola!!,
Mine has 29k miles in the clock, the rutine for starting her up in the mornings is, choke down, ignition button, it will run at about 2.5-3K RPM, I will let her running like this around 1-2 minutes then I will put the choke up again to original position, the engine will drop to an almost cut off iddle, then I just twist the throttle a couple of time and the engine recovers the pace and mantains a steady 900-1,000 RPM. Not sure if this is the best but it has worked fine for me in the last 4 years. After this rutine, during the day I do not need to put the choke again, just with the hit of the starting button is enough.

Luis

Welcome to the Forum. I think Luis has got it in one...(Hola Amigo)
I run the bike on the choke for about 30 seconds, and move off with it on ( i have a steep driveway) and when I hit the street, travel maybe 1/2 mile and then shut the choke off.
You may wish also to adjust your idling screw, which is to be found inside the rubber flapped section on the left side of the mid-panel. Your carb settings may be a bit out, but my bike also drops to almost nothing on idle if I pull the choke off too soon.
If you need a manual (see Gill I remembered
) download it here:

Hope it works -

Just curious, what is the normal idle speed. Mine rev's at approx. 1200rpm warm, no choke. Is that too high??
I usually give a couple shots of the throttle after putting on the choke, then crank her. She always fires right up and stays on fast idle for about 1- 2 minutes then I ease her down from there.

It's OK Gill, but I dropped mine down to 1100 RPM at idle - I just prefer it that way. Some of the guys run it at 1000RPM, I did too for a while, but pushed it up recently, as I felt it was too low.
Hi guys,
I had mine also set on 1200 RPM; but found that gearing in 1st made this "clonking" shift, and I felt that the chain kinda receive an aggresive pull, so I put her down to 1k RPM and now shifting is smoother.

Paco's right - I just found that at 1000RPM the pull off wasn't as smooth as at 1100RPM, and if the bike was a bit cold she would be more inclined to stall, the lower the idle setting......
