all 16 valves are .012 except one exhaust valve. its on the loose side at .018. the shop manual says .011 is dead on, give or take one. so .012 is the limit on the loose side. is .006 that big of a deal or can i wait until more valves are out of spec to tear it down for reshimming? i mean with anyone experiance is it normal just to wait until a handful of valves are out to reshim or do you reshim just for one being out.

29k on motor, seems to be running very good with no noises or problems.

 

Where did you get the numbers from ?

My Honda manual says :
Inlet Valve Clearence .008" +/- .001"
Exhaust Valve Clearance .011" +/- .001"

If all 16 of yours are .012" then I would say you need to shim all of the inlets as a minimum.

 

oops, i mean all exhaust valves. lol, thanks for pointing that out. what i should have said is that all valves are within spec except one of two #3 exhaust valves. its at .018 when it should be .011 +/-.001

 

I know it may seem a pest but I would re-shim that valve.

The tolerance is .002" and you are .006" outside that - That is 3x the alowable limit.

It means that although only slightly - that valve will open later and shut earlier than its partner valve. An effective change of valve timing.

It will also make balancing the carbs more difficult.
