In my experience with Honda charging problems it is more likely the voltage regulator. You should check the output voltage to the battery with the bike reved up. There are upgraded regulators available that have more cooling fins and I have used a Yamaha F6 regulator which is more durable than the Honda and usually reasonably priced on Ebay.

Yeah, My voltage regulator was fried and it killed my battery. Its a common problem with 90s-2000 Honda's. There are after market voltage regulators/rectifiers that have better cooling, ie fins etc. Here are one of the after market ones if you dont want to mess with your bikes wireing. http://www.electrosport.com/products...etail-1832.php
To check your regulator rectifier get a multi meter, and shoot Ohms across 3 yellow connection, or across anything if you have infinate ohms, meaning max resistance its fried.

I'm guessing voltage regulator, it happened to my old 96 900RR. I replaced the stator first only to find it still wouldn't stay charged, regulator fixed it though. The F4 is getting up there in years so replacing both probably wouldn't be a bad idea either, then you'll know your charging system is good for another decade.

Hey guys, where is the RR located at on the F4?

UPDATE: I did a little poking around and I assume that it is the 3X3inch or so box bolted to the right side frame, around the passenger seat area.

Are you sure your battery is good? Even if you can charge it, it may not hold the charge that long....

My 900rr just did this exact same thing when I was driving. Stopped at a rr crossing and it died, not to e started again. When I got it home, I checked out the stator, and its wires were holding on by a thread, and had shorted out
