Clutch Cable question
HOwdy all. i purchased a 2000 F4 in Jan of '06. Recently, the clutch started to slip alot whenever i would hit the throtle hard. Being somewhat mechanically gifted (and with the help of a friend who's a mechanic as well as the service manual) i took the clutch apart and looked at it. no wear on it, no discoloration on any of the plates, so i put it back how i found it. i then replaced the clutch cable and now it works fine. However, the cable seems to be too short. it fit, but i had to route it behind where the key goes but infront of the steering column. i was wondering if anyone has a pic of their stock cluth cable as you would look down at your instrument cluster while riding. i don't know if anyone else has had a problem with this or not. please let me know. Thanks a ton.
If the cable is not adjusted properly the clutch will slip. The cable needs a few mm of slack before it starts to actuate the shifter and the rest of the range is to pull the clutch entirely disengaged.
Too tight and it slips. Too slack and it drags and never fully disengages when shifting.
As for routing I think I saw a picture of it in the manual... I'll look again tommorow when I get a minute.
