I have a 99 f4, and for what I know the clutch on the 2001+ f4i is different from the 99-00 f4
The clutch is stronger and better .

Can I buy a full clutch assy (basket,plate and such) and put it on my 99 f4 ?

pretty sure it's the exact same. Do your self a huge favor and get the Clymer manual for the F4 and F4i (same manual) it covers the bikes from 99 to 2006 so... it shows all the important differences and what have you. I got mine two days ago and have learned a ****-ton about my bike. Also, I'm not sure but there may be a difference between the 49 states/canada, california, and UK models, so check that also.

 

Im 100% sure that they are not the same.

the 01+ have a different clutch.

 

ok i checked the manual. they are indeed different, on the 2001+ clutch there are more clutch plates, and two springs that aren't on the 99-00. The manual doesn't mention any crossover, and only covers the replacement of the stock parts. But being that those are the only mentioned differences, I don't see why you couldn't put on a whole new 01+ basket and everything. But honestly, I don't know anything. maybe someone else will come along who is more knowledgable. GL
