Default CBR600F4-specific spool installation?

Hi guys,

I had a quick look through past threads and couldn't find topic/advice specific to the F4 spool installation. I've heard good and bad things about drilling into the swingarm of this particular bike. What spools do you use (and stand?), how did you install and any issues worth mentioning? A picture would be appreciated!

Thanks, BBP

I also am looking to add some spool to my f4i, i have some 303 cycle stands with the swing arm lift pads for the rear at the time buy i also have the spool adapter that i can put on instead of the paddle adapter. check out the how to section and you will find bunch of threads about it. one option is the pipe through the axle which doesnt require any swing arm mods but you cant remove wheel with this option, there is also the welded bung on the bottom of swingarm, and then the pitbull spool insert which involves drilling the swingarm and installing the insert. I personally just ordered a set of these. I dont like the idea of drilling the swing arm but it is what it is.

The one issue I know of, is to assure that the spool's bolts don't interfere with the
chain-adjusters movement. That's the reason for the weld-on nuts for some
hollow-tubing swing-arms. You want the spools as far to the rear as possible,
for stability reasons.

If you are dealing with a solid rear swingarm, drilling and tapping for the spools
shouldn't be a safety/integrity issue.

This topic does come up from time to time. IMO, its really not worth it to install spool mounts to the F4 swingarm. I work on my F4 & use a PitBull rear stand like TF04F4I mentioned, that lifts w/ from under the swingarm w/ rubber pads. I use my stand in the garage & track & its super sturdy.

Now, if you're dead-set on installing spools, you can use *revnuts*/spool-inserts/or weld-on mounts. For revnuts/spool-inserts, you'd need to drill into your swingarm & install the revnuts/spool inserts...then you can install the spools. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, any good sport bike race shop can do it for you. I've listed links b/f for revnuts/spool inserts but don't have them handy. Just google 'revnuts' & you'll see. Be sure to look at PitBull's Spool Insert Kit if its still avail. ...IMO, it was the best on the market.
