CBR 600FY (2000) engine ticking noise
Hi everyone, recently changed oil, oil filter, coolant and spark plugs to my bike and have noticed a random ticking noise coming from the engine when idling. This can only be heard when the engine warms up and does not get any worse when turning the throttle.
Definetly correct oil level in bike and checked the spark plug gaps before fitting them.
Ive been reading on here that these bikes have a common fault with the cam chain tensioner, could this be it? As I said it only happens when the engine has warmed up and cant be heard when increasing revs, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Any suggestions would be most grateful
Cheers all

Yep, could well be it and it wont stop me using it. I fitted a complete new exhaust a few months back and was wondering if it could be the manifolds blowing slightly as apparantley they can make a ticking noise aswell. Just seems strange that it only happens when the engine is warm. Going to check em tomorrow just incase
Thanks for your help anyway.

I used a 10w40 semi synthetic oil and I checked the API grade was correct. Ive tried what you said and it sounds like the tapping is coming from the cct area.
Ide like to change it anyway just to eliminate it as it sounds like a very common problem.
According to my service manual it says to line up the timing marks on the inspection cap outer marks and also on the camshaft sprockets before changing the cct.
Is this really necessary as ive spoken to someone with the same bike and he said he changed his without lining anything up. Did he get lucky?
Im not afraid to do things like oil changes and spark plugs but I wouldnt like to take of carbs etc to get at the sprockets incase I mess things up.
Thanks for any ideas
