bike making grinding sound
i am having serious issues with my 00 cbr 600. i just re-painted it and now whenever i try to start it up there is a grinding sound near the battery and starter relay switch as well as near the rear cowl. the bike will not even try to kick over, just makes annoying sound. if i continue to push the starter switch the sound will eventually stop like the battery is dead. i tested the battery and my multimeter is reading 11.8. i also checked wire connections. im not that mechanically inclined so if anyone knows what the issue is; i will greatfully appreciate it.

Sounds like poor contact is being made somewhere electrically causing the relay to chatter.Conditions that are included in starting logic are: stop switch, start button, kickstand switch, neutral switch and the clutch switch. Any one of these could cause intermittent pass through to the start relay. Personaly I would put money on the relay itself being bad or having a poor connection.

hey thanks man, i took my battery to autozone to have tested and they said its shot so i have to get a new one, i also need a new tail light which i believe is causing the issues....i took everything electrical off and i realized i had a left blinker wire broken. but again i appreciate it.

Yeah you always have to start with a good battery. That clicking is weird though. I guess if the battery was just bad enough it could cause the relay coil to chatter on and off. I think with the bike off batt voltage should be around 12.3v and when itsrunning around 14v.

yeah i tested my battery prior to taking it to autozone and it read 11.3v when bike was turned off. i also have another question, i just picked up a new taillight with the integrated blinkers. the connection wires are different than the harness on my bike. the configuration on the taillight is a yellow plug that goes in where one of the bulbs goes because it is LED and the blinker wires are blue and yellow. now on my bike there are 2 wires per blinker, now i know one of them is for the ground but how should i connect them. you know what im sure im confusing u so let me type this another way.
NEW LED TAIL LIGHT:
YELLOW PLUG (PARK/BRAKE LIGHT) GOOD THERE
BLUE WIRE (LEFT BLINKER)*
YELLOW WIRE (RIGHT BLINKER)*
2 WHITE BLOCKS WITH WIRE COMING OUT OF EACH END (USED AS GROUND FROM TAIL LIGHT TO BIKE)
TAIL LIGHT HARNESS ON MY BIKE:
2 BULB HARNESSES ( I PULLED OUT A BULB AND INSERTED THE YELLOW PLUG AND TUCKED AWAY THE OTHER BULB HARNESS) GOOD
2 BLINKER HARNESSES ( EACH HARNESS HAS 2 WIRES THAT LEAD TO A PLASTIC FEMALE ATTACHMENT)
* NOW THE ENDS OF THESE WIRES IS METAL
QUESTION IS HOW THE HELL DO I ATTACH THEM TOGETHER
