Anyone have a good f4 GPS rig?
So....I dont really NEED anything for Christmas this year but one thing I have always wanted was a GPS setup for my bike (I am pretty bad with directions).
Does anyone have a setup that works well for them? I dont want my wife to have to break the bank on this one. I have a Tom Tom one in my car and for the 100$ I paid I am very impressed with it. I assume for the bike it will cost alot more b/c of the mount/ weather factor but I would love to know what the options are for our bikes (what is the best mount?) Thanks.

as for mounts go ram mounts are the best.

i have the stem ram mount and there cradle for the garmin 60csx. $400 new gps but i bought it used. its a waterproof hicking gps that is caple of being a turn-by-turn gps. small screen but works. alot of dual sport guys use it because of the high-senseative reciever.
there is also a metal stem mount that is for sale too. but i forgot who makes it. and i think yogi182 got it but i dont know if he ever wrote his comments on it.
tourtech also has cradle's for different gps's. but there are pricey. but never have to worry about them for the rest of YOUR life.

Thanks for the info. Limpy do you have a pic of your setup? Ram matches this handle bar mount to the f4 http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResu...5/Default.aspx
I am not sure if there is even room for that thing on the bars. Would it be better to try a gas tank mount or the ones that sit in the triple tree bolt?
My other question is do the motorcycle gps units have a connection to the battery somehow to keep them charged? I know my tom tom one in my car probably only has 2 hours battery life.

no my camrea broke and i'm trying to find a replacement. the handle bar mount will attach to the clutch lever just fine. i have my heated grips controler there. the problem is the height of the windscreen. you will hit it.
i always have a tank bag on my bike so i never consider a tank mount. but one from sw-motech can be electrifed. the are sold through http://www.twistedthrottle.com/. it has a quick release.
you can get wires from numerous places for hard wireing to the bike. my gps with it's little screen will go a good 10 hours on 2 AA batteries. but nuvi's dont last more than 3 for sure.

I have a Garmin nuvi and used a ram mount, origannly the mount came with a wedge type of device that goes into the triple tree I didn't like this so I got a steel dowel that was threaded on both ends and just ran it threw the triple trees with washers and lock nuts on both ends. it works great even with setting wheelies down hard I have never had any problems.
