theres several threads on here and even some tutorials explaining the conversion-
what id like to figure out is how different the SUBframes actually are between the f4 & f4i?
ive seen ebay adds thatsay "subframe f4/ f4i " as though they were the same thing.
i wonder how much mod the f4 sub would need to fit the i plastics?
anyone know?

they say f4/f4i subframe because the 04 and up F4's went back to the single seat....

if you look at a 99-00/04-06 and 01-03 subframes you will see the differences. The nana seat sub 'can' be modded, but its not a simple job, some tube bending, cutting, welding.

Alot easier to just buy a split seat sub and sell the nana seat sub to comp some of the cost.

Side note: If the subframe for the 99-00 and 04-06 is the same, will the later models grab handle bolt right on using existing holes? Curious.. I know the plastic must be modified.. but I like that feature.

Sorry to hijack.

Thanks Leo. I put quite a bit of time into that tutorial b/c when I was researching how to do it, there wasn't a more complete tutorial out there...& I wanted others to be able to benefit from some of the little things that I had to figure out for myself. Please feel free to contact me for help if you decide to go this route. I'll help any way I can.

Yes, the subframes are quite a bit different. No, it would not be worthwhile to try & modify an F4 subframe...too many differences to make it worth your while spending time on it. You'd have to drill & tap holes for the seat, fab up a mount to hold the rear seat & weld it on, etc etc etc. I considered all of this when I decided to do the conversion. Buying & installing a ready-made F4i subframe is the absolute best way to go. Find yourself a good used 01-03 subframe & bolt it right up.

Here's some pics I took of the F4 vs F4i Subframes. They are most certainly *NOT* the same. The silver colored subframe is F4 99-00...F4i 04-06 was very similar. The F4i 01-03 subframe is the black one...

yes, if you will notice in gotcbr's pix of the f4 sub, on the latch bracket, the outer set of holes, those be for the grab handle I do believe
