When I let the bike idle it begins to emit a burning smell and a good amount of smoke coming from the front section of the bike up by the handlebars and up infront up the headlight.

Bikes got 17k on it and I need it to last... Any ideas?

 

Does it smell of antifreeze or oil?

 

Had a automotive mechanic smell it, he stated it smells like oil. I dont know what the smell of burning antifreeze is.

 

Maybe an oil filter not installed properly...allowing oil to leak out & onto the pipes...thus the oil burning & smoking.

If its the radiator fluid, it could be a leaky or loose hose...causing the same type thing. Being a 10 yr old bike, if those are original radiator hoses, that could be the problem.
