Default wiring help

Hello to all, I just bought a 98 CBR 600 that already had the aftermarket integrated tail light. The problem is that in order to pass the state safety inspection I had to replace it with DOT approved lights. No problem I thought until I looked at the mess back there, I have tried everything to get DOT's to work properly and now I have no brake lights. I think I am just too stupid to figure out the proper wiring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Default Battery is now dead

Well I messed around with the wiring on the bike, but now the battery is dead. I tried to charge it but it died after I let the bike run for about an hour. Just wanted to know if the problem could be deeper than just the battery. Rectifier, stator, demons perhaps..any help from you guys would help, local shop says they will look at it and fix it for $500..I would prefer to do it myself. Thanks

I just swapped from my 95 tail with integrated taillight to a 98 tail with stock lighting. Let me know exactly what you need to know and I'll see what I can do. Pics would probably help too. Did you just allow the bike to idle for an hour, or did you actually ride it? The bike doesn't start to charge until like after 4,000 rpm.

R/R and stator shouldn't be affecting the lights like that. Maybe popping fuses constantly. But not lights one day / no lights the next and no other symptoms. Battery died cause of what ajzcamaro said: bike doesn't charge the battery while idling

Gimme a sec and I'll snap a pic of my brake light's wiring before I take it out.

This it the connection from the wire harness to the brake light. Colors are Brown - Brown, Green - Green, Green / Yellow - Green / Yellow

That's where they split to the 2 lights in the brake.

Going by the wire diagram in my Haynes manual it looks like Green goes to ground, Brown goes to the gauges (prolly for power) and Green / Yellow goes to the brake switch

The brown is the constant (tail light) for the brake lamp sockets. The should only be two wires for the rear signals sockets since there is no marker lights in the rear.

Hey guy's,

I just switched mine to an integrated tail light and connected it all as above photo's. yet the brake light will not work.

Any ideas why????

p.s. there should be no bulbs in any of the two sockets should there??? as one is for factory led fitting, the other is blank.
