Default steel or alloy frame

Hello to all, I'm new to the forum and think this is a great resource.
As I understand, 99 and up Honda began making the f4 and f4i's with alloy frame. Previous models have steel frames.
I was told by a fellow rider that my 1998 f3 frame is alloy. The stamp on the bike says it was made 11/97. Could Honda have made some F3's with alloy frames or he is mistaken it just looks like alloy?
Thanks.

99 and up they were aluminum. No 98 will be aluminum from what I understand.

thanks for the clarification transamltman. I didn't think it was but wanted to verify with a Honda rider since my riding buddy rides an '05 R6. I have the same red and black '98 as yours in the photo. It rocks and is still quite nimble despite the steel frame.
