Can some one fill me in on Titanium, Alloy and steel bolts?

Tahoe said no to Titanium for the fairing as the frame is Aluminium and could cross thread easily.

Specifies: Do not use Aluminium in any safety critical areas. and Titanium can be used in safety critical areas.

Your probably wondering why I am doing this?

The standard bolts will eventually carrode. I live in England. England and Portugal are the only countries that use rock salt to grit the winter roads. I am thinking about replacing the bolts bit by bit. Starting with the screen then moving down to fairing and finally the engine and other mechanical parts.

 

I am probably in the minority when I say that I don't like titanium nuts and bolts. I think they can be too brittle for everyday use (at least the alloy I was using on the Tomahawk cruise missile program), they didn't like rough treatment.

I'd get marine grade Stainless stuff and be done with it. But you may run into a dissimilar metal galvanic corrosion issues.

 

I've started already. The screen been replaced the rear brake pin and the 2 bolts have all gone. The bolts I have replaced so far looks bad already. I have to wait another 6 months to see how the bolts are doing.

 

i built aluminum boat docks at my last job, and we used hardend stainless steel bolts to bolt the pieces together, so between stainless and aluminum there should not be any problems with corosion. but with un coated mild steel bolts and aluminum there will be corosion issues according to my previous welding teacher/boss.

 

Yeah that sounds about right. The standard honda stuff osnt coated.


Look at the new Titanium bolts the brake pad pin, mounting bolting bolt and slide pin bolt.

Getting Ti bleed nipples and banjo bolts too.

This is a shot of the bike as soon as I fitted those bolts, will see in another 6 months what it looks like.

But for the time being I am a converted Tibolt user.

I have an 06 1K and I replaced every possible nut and bolt with titanium. I bought them all from Tastynuts.

 

cool!! Thats what I am trying to do.

Just that some of the parts they dont list as kits or some bolts they dont list. Just knowing the measurements and trying to work things out. I sort of need pointers. I want to eventually replace everything possible on my bike.

 

where are your SS lines and all that other good stuff?

yea ti stuff shouldn't be used cause they fubar the softer aluminum, but if you take your time then you'll be fine...

problem is, most people usually don't and cross thread everything.

 

Hey Tahoe,

A bunch of stuff are in the post on the way to my house, just sitting and waiting right now. HEL titanium brake lines, Gilles rear set, gilles chain adjuster, K&N air filter and a few Titanium and carbon fibre bits.

Fitted my PCIII last week. Added a few Ti bolts already
