Stator, R/R Hot wires.

Stator, R/R Hot wires.
A few days ago my 97 F3 fell on its side while I was working on it.
When I started it up I noticed the battery wasn't getting regulated voltage.
Since it coincided with the fall I figured it was a short somewhere as opposed to a problem with the stator or R/R.
I took off the R/R and noticed the connector was partially melted, but still functional.
I then followed it back to the alternator 3P connector and the two pieces were melted together, the three yellow wires pretty much all touching each other.
I completely removed the 3P connector and just attached the wires directly, and I'm getting regulated voltage again, but the wires feel pretty hot to the touch, and I'm worried it might get worse.
Is this normal, or might I have a faulty R/R or stator?
My regulator looks pretty beat up, cracks from heat and whatnot.
