Default Splitting Lanes

On my way to school today I was cruising at a constant speed of about 85-90ish when i came to pretty much "a wall" of traffic (all 3 lanes) i thought about slowing down and waiting for a chance to pass, but instead i pegged the throttle and i saw the wall getting closer to me....i ended up splitting the right and middle lane .....i had to pass 2 sets of vehicles. so it was a pretty long lane split. I just thought id share because it was the first time ive even split lanes and i nearly had to change my underwear after lol.

just becareful riding @ those speeds is dangerous enough and then you try and go through cars by spliting the lane.. that wall closing in on you feeling is accurate. just remember that some people will actually crowd the middle of the lanes just to **** you up, and if you get in an accident its considered your fault (let alone its probably illegal in your state)becareful man id hate to read your obittuary on here.

bro you are nuts or you are lying.

i stop lane splitting when traffic goes over 35, at these speeds the gaps between the cars open up and cagers are more likely to change lanes without looking.

I don't know he said he thought about slowing down but instead pegged the throttle. I don't recommend splitting lanes at speeds greater than 30-35 mph. Just my .02. It has been my experience that if a car sees traffic moving a little faster in the other lane then they'll jump at the chance to move over. Few signal these days. Be safe...

BE CAREFULL!!!!

I split lanes but I would never do it whlie I "pegged it". California it's legal. In fact, I've even kept pace with a motor CHP once. I can't tell you how many times while splitting lanes things were a lot closer than I thought they were a second before. I haven't hit anything yet but I assume the more I forget to slow down the faster that ever clicking clock of pending doom keeps speeding up. I'll keep splitting lanes but thanks to your story I remember to slow down even more. Good luck and safe riding.

Do that here (in Ohio) and I guarantee a car will move over and block your way. You have a right to the lane the same as a car. You do not have a right to ride on the berm or weave between cars. As the poster above said, see you in the Obit.

That's pretty much what I do, for the reason you said. At lower speeds they're packed in so tight they couldn't make a sudden lane shift even if they wanted to.

Sometimes I'll split at higher speeds, but I understand it's much riskier.
