Default Speedometer accuracy

I've had the feeling my speedometer was reading high so I loaded a GPS on board and sure enough, I was right. It reads on average, about 6-7MPH higher than GPS speed. The spread gets wider at higher speeds, it seems. I'm geared stock, so that's not it.

Anyone else notice this on their motorcycles? is this is a common issue?

I've been told that manufacturers do this intentionally...but I'm not buying it. Anything to check? I want an accurate speedo.

Yes It's common, and it was intentional and there was actually a class action lawsuit on it years back. the reason it gets worse as you go faster is because It's a percentage, not a fixed speed difference. if it was fixed, it would say something like 7mph when you're stopped. do a quick google search for speedohealer. I have one and it works great. mine speedo is dead on now.

OK, thanks I'll look at the healer.

I also have a Harley and its speedo is spot on accurate.

By law vehicle manufacturers are aloud a +/- 10% variable on speedometers.

Although your Odometer should be almost bang on as I believe it is aloud to be off +/- 0.1%.

If you do fix the speedometer with a speedohealer it will make your odometer be off though.
